In Social Studies over the next couple of weeks, we will be studying North Carolina's natural resources. We will be learning about renewable and nonrenewable resources and their characteristics. We will also be focusing on how land in North Carolina has changed over time, because of our natural resources.
**Ask your child to name at least three renewable resources and three nonrenewable resources!
**An "in class" research project will be given on a specific resource. They will have plenty of time to work on this in class as we become experts in natural resources. More information to come!

Social Studies tests on the Mountain Natives are being given on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Students were given a full class period to study and make flashcards to prepare for the test, due to it being on a Monday. They also received a study guide that came straight from their packets to be another study tool. Packets were given out in class on Wednesday. I also hope that students utilized the Kahoot game I posted last week!
We will be moving on for the three regions of North Carolina as we close the week! :)

We are moving on to the Mountain Region Natives this week in Social Studies. Instead of taking two weeks, we are completing this packet in one week. Students were given the packets on Tuesday and Wednesday in class with the entire duration of class to work on it. If students got the packet on Tuesday, it is due on Thursday. If the students got the packet on Wednesday, it is due Friday. Mountain Natives quiz will be Monday and Tuesday. We will be reviewing in class on Thursday and Friday with games and a study guide!

9/11-9/15
We are working on Native Americans in the Coastal Plain region this week in SS. We are learning the similarities and differences between the Coastal Plains now as opposed to what it was long ago. The activity packets are due on Monday/Tuesday to go over thoroughly in class and they will have a quiz on Wednesday/Thursday.
9/5-9/8
We are finishing up studying the three regions in North Carolina. We are wrapping up our unit talking about the Mountain region and all of our past experiences. After taking a class vote, our favorite region is the Mountain region!! Everyone will be taking a small assessment next class on the three regions. Students must be able to label the regions on a map and list at least two characteristics of each. Since we were out of school for Labor Day, we will be having Science and SS on Friday instead of our usual STEM Friday.
8/28-9/1
This week in Social Studies, we are continuing to learn about the three regions in North Carolina: The Coastal Plains, Piedmont, and the Mountain Region. We will focus on one region each day to discuss and complete guided notes in the one subject SS notebook. Students express experiences within each region and examples/pictures are shown to spur thinking. For homework each night, students will need to finish their guided notes, if not finished in class.
